The very meh Resident Evil 5 became the most successful in the series after the amazing Resident Evil 4. The same happened in Metal Gear series with the super awaited Metal Gear Solid 2 becoming the most successful in the series, average reception made the following sequel, the much praised MGS3 selling a lot less. That's nothing new, after the success of Devil May Cry 1, DMC2 became the most commercial successful in the series based on hype alone, but since it was considered one of the worst sequels in history that end up making the excellent DMC3 being the least commercially successful in the series, and later after the amazing critical reception of DMC3, DMC4 end up selling a lot more.

Like, for example, when Ubi announced that AC3 sold 12 million copies, only 10 of them were actually retail at the time.īut the gist of it is like this, in terms of retail, to date: keep selling and selling consistently (even though not at a high rate). Digital is actually a very good chunk of sales with long tail, i.e.
